According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 36 million older adults fall each year. A duo of researchers at the University of Cincinnati used machine learning to identify and approve methods for a fall detection system for the elderly.
A mobile app for nonprofits
DonorDrive, makers of an enterprise digital fundraising platform, announced the launch of the DonorDrive Charity Fundraising app, a mobile app created for nonprofits. The new app offers nonprofits a new supporter acquisition channel and is designed to drive higher fundraising and retention rates among their existing constituent bases.
Meridian Bioscience to acquire BreathTek
Cincinnati-based Meridian Bioscience, a maker of diagnostic test kits, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire part of Otsuka America Pharmaceutical’s BreathTek business for $20 million in cash. BreathTek is a test for checking for Helicobacter pylori infection.
Carefeed closes funding round
Over-the-Rhine-headquartered Carefeed, which provides digital communication solutions to senior care facilities closed a financing round led by Indianapolis- and Cincinnati-based Allos Ventures, with participation from M25, a Chicago- and Indianapolis-based VC firm.
Dayton is emerging tech hub
A new report from real estate firm CBRE designates Dayton as a top “emerging” technology hub. According to the report, the Dayton metro area’s tech employment in 2020 was 18,930, with growth in technology jobs in the past five years pegged at 31% and tech wages at just over $90,000.
