Data analytics company Astronomer has closed on $213 million in Series C funding led by Insight Ventures. Astronomer will use the money to advance some of its strategic plans. One of those is to acquire Datakin, a data operations tool.

Covington nurtures Black-owned businesses
A new partnership in Covington will help nurture the creation and growth of Black-owned businesses by making available meeting space for free, consulting services, and other resources needed by entrepreneurs. Partners include the City of Covington, the Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky African American Chamber of Commerce (AACC), and the Northern Kentucky University Collaborative for Economic Engagement, which operates out of 112 Pike St. in Covington’s “Innovation Alley.”
Air Cargo Safety Research Center coming to Miami Township
California-based Satco, Inc. made a $10 million investment in Miami Township for the world’s first manufacturer-owned Air Cargo Safety Research Center (ARC). The facility has state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment that will increase its testing capabilities. Satco selected Miami Township for its research center because of its proximity to a number of airports known for cargo distribution from some of the world’s largest companies.
UC addresses climate change
Engineers at the University of Cincinnati have developed a promising electrochemical system to convert emissions from chemical and power plants into useful products while addressing climate change. UC College of Engineering and Applied Science assistant professor Jingjie Wu and his team used a two-step cascade reaction to convert carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide and then into ethylene.
Creating the next generation of entrepreneurs
Main Street Ventures announced the launch of the Inventure Entrepreneurship Academy for high school students in Cincinnati, with the aim of inspiring next-gen leaders. Entrepreneurship Academy is a 2-week immersive experience for high school students interested in entrepreneurship.
Enable Injections partners to fight multiple myeloma
In a deal valued at over €300 million, French company Sanofi and Blackstone have partnered with Cincy’s Enable Injections. The goal is to advance a subcutaneous delivery method for Sarclisa, an anti-CD38 antibody that will be used to treat multiple myeloma (MM). There are more than 130,000 annual diagnoses each year, and despite available treatments, it remains incurable.
