Improving drone safety

Never underestimate the role of kites in innovation (right, Benjamin Franklin?). Engineers at University of Cincinnati (UC) have developed a semi-autonomous drone that is moored to the ground. It can be operated more safely and has a longer battery life. The drone is connected to the ground, making it more stable in gusting winds and moveable from the ground, like flying a kite.

Reducing carbon emissions

Aeroseal a developer of building seals to reduce carbon emissions, raised $22 million in Series A funding. Breakthrough Energy Ventures led the round and was joined by Energy Impact Partners and Building Ventures.

Treating babies with rare lung disorder

Researchers from Cincinnati Children's and UC may have found a way to help babies diagnosed with the extremely rare lung disorder ACDMPV survive longer than a few days to weeks after birth. A recent study shows promise that nanoparticle therapy would help newborns’ lungs develop properly.

Digital healthcare platform acquired

Provide, a digital platform for healthcare practices, has been acquired by Fifth Third. Provide will maintain its brand identity and operate as an independent business line as it expands is product offering for doctors who own health care practices nationwide.

Free tech program

The Community Action Agency is offering a free tech program to help people pick up additional tech skills to make them more employable. The Tech Works program, led by Shawnte Hodge, helps people gain tech certifications for free that usually cost up to $3,000.

UC study may help treat infertility

Other researchers at UC’s School of Medicine have developed a blueprint for proteins that play important roles in the development and regulation of reproductive organs. The research around the anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) may help treat infertility, as well as help protect future births in women undergoing chemotherapy.
